Chandigarh, March 12, Newsline Express –ย ย ย 343,000 fake bank accounts (mule accounts) have been identified from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024, through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. The data has been sent by Haryana Police to the concerned banks for investigation and legal action. Along with this initiative, Haryana Police has warned all account holders not to share their personal bank account information with anyone. People should keep an eye on the amount credited or debited in their bank accounts.
Giving information about this, Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapur said that significant results are being seen in the field of cybercrime as a result of the effective strategy of Haryana Police. As a result of the zero-tolerance policy of Haryana Police against cybercriminals, the amount of money defrauded by cyber thugs in Haryana in February 2025 compared to February 2024 has decreased by more than half. Where 78.48 crore rupees were defrauded in February 2024, this amount has reduced to 38.97 crore rupees in February 2025, which is less than half.
Similarly, the amount saved by Haryana Police from the clutches of cyber thugs, which was 21.57 percent in February 2024, has increased to 23.01 percent in February 2025. Along with this, strict action is also being taken by Haryana Police against cybercriminals. Where 3 cybercriminals were being arrested daily in the year 2022, this figure has increased to 21 in the year 2025. He said that Haryana Police has put about 3 times more cybercriminals behind bars in February 2025 as compared to February 2024.
Shri Kapur said that to bring awareness among the general public about preventing cybercrime, people are being made aware of the methods adopted by cybercriminals through caller tunes on mobile phones. Through different platforms like social media, workshops and other publicity mediums, Haryana Police informs about the working methods being adopted by cybercriminals. Along with this, giving importance to every call received on helpline number-1930 for the convenience of the general public, the number of personnel deployed here has also been increased two to three times so that quick action can be taken on the received complaints.
Haryana Police is working in a planned manner to break the nexus of cybercriminals in the state. Although cybercrime is a big challenge because the criminal commits the crime sitting miles away and makes people victims of cyber fraud by adopting different types of methods every day. Haryana Police brainstorms with cyber experts about the different methods adopted by cybercriminals so that not only people can be saved from becoming victims of it but cybercriminals can also be put behind bars.
Shri Kapur appealed to the general public and said that in this era of technology, most people are active on online platforms. If any person calls and calls himself an officer of CBI, ED or police and talks about digital arrest, then be immediately alert because no agency does digital arrest. Along with this, people should not fall into the trap of fake share trading being broadcast on social media platforms. Before investing, definitely verify the official website of the company. Along with this, people should not pick up WhatsApp video and audio calls coming from abroad, especially from Cambodia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka etc. People should beware of fake advertisements coming on Telegram and Google etc. Haryana Police is continuously running awareness campaigns on print and social media to make the people of the state aware of the methods adopted by cybercriminals. The only way to prevent cybercrime is caution and vigilance, so people should remain vigilant and contact helpline number-1930 immediately if they suspect cybercrime.
