ย The withdrawal of security cover provided to Pawan Gupta, National President of Shiv Sena Hindustan, has sparked political and social reactions in Punjab. Addressing a press conference at Hotel Flyover on Tuesday, leaders of Shiv Sena Hindustan and Hindustan Shakti Sena strongly opposed the Punjab Government’s decision and demanded the immediate restoration of Gupta’s security.
The organisation issued a 48-hour ultimatum, warning that it would launch a statewide agitation if the security cover is not reinstated within the stipulated time.
Addressing the media, Pawan Gupta alleged that while the Punjab Government is trying to win the confidence of the Hindu community through various pilgrimage schemes, it has simultaneously sent a contradictory message by withdrawing the security of leaders who raise issues concerning the Hindu community.
Gupta claimed that his security was withdrawn because he had consistently raised issues related to the rights of nearly 35,000 terrorism-affected Hindu families in Punjab and had demanded a more comprehensive relief package for them.
He said the organisation would continue its struggle for enhanced relief for terrorism-affected families as well as for its 11-point charter of demands.
He appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Arvind Kejriwal, National Convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party, to review the matter objectively and ensure that no situation arises that creates mistrust or confrontation between the government and the Hindu community.
Mr. Gupta further stated that if his security is not restored within 48 hours, Shiv Sena Hindustan will launch a statewide agitation. He also announced that a meeting of Hindu organisations from across Punjab would soon be convened to formulate the next phase of the movement.
Speaking at the press conference, head of Shri Hindu Takht, termed the withdrawal of Pawan Gupta’s security an inappropriate decision. He urged the Punjab Government to reconsider its stand, stating that raising issues concerning the welfare and rights of the Hindu community is the legitimate responsibility of social organisations. He also appealed for the immediate restoration of Gupta’s security.
Krishan Sharma, National General Secretary of Shiv Sena Hindustan, who had specially arrived from Ludhiana, said that if any harm comes to Pawan Gupta or his family due to inadequate security, the Punjab Government would be responsible. He added that Gupta has been actively associated with several sensitive public issues for many years and therefore deserves adequate security protection.
Among those present at the press conference were National Advisor Hemraj Goyal, National Spokesperson Pradeep Verma, North India Vice-President of Hindustan Mahila Sena Kanta Bansal, Punjab President of Hindustan Vyapar Sena Krishna Gaba, Senior Vice-President (Punjab) and Patiala District In-charge Kshamakant Pandey, Punjab Youth Sena Chairman Amarjeet Bunty, Nabha District Vice-President Nand Lal, Nabha City Mahila President Vimla Devi, Patiala City President Ravi Sohol, along with a large number of office-bearers and party workers.ย Newsline Express
